Dennion, DeVita Earn All-Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Sophomore forwards Nicole Dennion of Elon and Stephanie DeVita of Furman earned spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire All-Southeast Region teams, as announced by the NSCAA on Wednesday.

Dennion was a second-team selection, while DeVita claimed a spot on the third team.

The 2013 Southern Conference Player of the Year, Dennion tied for the SoCon lead in goals (15) and finished second in points with 36. The SoCon Player of the Month in September, Dennion notched four game-winning goals this season and three multi-goal games. Dennion completed a hat trick on Oct. 25 against Chattanooga to lead the Phoenix to a 3-0 win. Against Davidson in the quarterfinals of the SoCon tournament, Dennion scored two late goals to propel Elon to a 3-1 decision over the Wildcats.

Dennion has also recorded five assists this season.

Her 15 goals this season are the most in a single season in Elon's Division I era and are tied for eighth all-time in a single season with Chris Greenspan and Tara Houston. Her 36 points are the 10th-most in a single season in program history.

Dennion becomes only the third Elon player during the school's Division I era to earn all-region honors. Olivia Mackey earned third-team all-region honors in 2011, while Jessica Mills earned first-team accolades in 2002 and second-team honors in 2001.

A product of Hillcrest High School and native of Simpsonville, S.C., DeVita scored 15 goals and added nine assists while guiding the Paladins to a 17-4-2 record, a Southern Conference regular-season title, the SoCon tournament crown and an NCAA tournament berth in 2013.

She tallied three goals and two assists in three SoCon tournament matches to capture MVP honors following the Paladins’ 3-1 triumph over Elon in the championship match.

DeVita, a two-time All-SoCon choice and 2012 SoCon Player of the Year and SoCon Freshman of the Year selection, has netted 34 goals and totaled 13 assists in just two seasons in the purple and white.  Her 34 career goals rank her seventh in Furman history, while her 81 total points are good for eighth on the Paladins’ career ledger.  She has tallied 14 game-winning goals as a Paladin, which is tied for third in school history.

A second-team NSCAA All-Southeast selection in 2012, Devita took part in the United States U-20 National Team’s November training camp in Carson, Calif.
