Trott wins title, Gardner-Webb fifth at Cradle Gear Invitational

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gardner-Webb’s Austin Trott went 4-0 en route to the 165-pound title at the Cradle Gear Invitational on Sunday, helping the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a fifth-place team finish.

GWU finished with 48 points on the day, highlighted by Trott’s title. The redshirt freshman from Kingsland, Ga., opened his day with a pin over Bucknell’s Robert Schlitt in 1:30 and added a technical fall, major decision and decision for the bracket title.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs had three more place finishers, as Robbie Golde (133), Brett Stein (174) and Justin Kozera (285) each took fourth at his respective weight class.

Gardner-Webb returns to action at the Braves Open in Pembroke, N.C., on Saturday.

SIUE competes at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championship

EVANSTON, Ill. – Connor McMahon scored 5.5 team points for SIUE at the 51st annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championship.

McMahon, wrestling at 165 pounds, won his first match of the day with a 2 minute, 25 second pin over Maryland's Tyler Manion. He was then defeated by top-seeded Steven Monk of North Dakota State.

In wrestlebacks, McMahon advanced on a medical forfeit from Illinois' Matt Nora and was ousted from the tournament by Indiana's Ryan LeBlanc, 12-2.

SIUE's three other wrestlers – Deshoun White, Jake Residori, and Patrick Myers – all were defeated in their first two matches of the day. Many of the matches were close.

SIUE continues action next Saturday at Northern Illinois with a 3 p.m. match in DeKalb.
