Campbell competes at Northern Iowa Open

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Redshirt senior Brent Jorge took third place at 149 pounds, while classmate Eloheim Palma placed fourth at 285 as Campbell competed at the Northern Iowa Open on Saturday in its first competition in three weeks.

Jorge went 5-1 on the day, including two falls. In the first round, he pinned Eddie Harvey (Iowa Central CC) in 2:19 before taking down No. 8 Missouri’s Brandon Rice in 38 seconds, the fastest fall of any Camel this season. In the quarterfinal, Jorge earned a 9-5 decision over Northern Iowa’s Tyler Patten before taking his only loss of the day in the semifinal to Iowa State’s Blayne Briceno in a tight 3-2 contest. Jorge took a 9-2 decision over Missouri’s Blake Pepper in the consolation semifinal and claimed third place with a 6-3 decision over Alex Kocer of South Dakota State.

Palma finished the day 4-2, including his team-leading sixth win by fall. He posted a 13-7 decision over Michigan State’s Chris Nash in the first round before falling 9-4 to Missouri’s Justin Heberlie in the quarterfinal. He took three straight wins to advance to the third-place match. He earned a 56-second fall over Corby Running (Minnesota State Mankato) before taking a 3-2 decision over Alex Macki of South Dakota State.  In the consolation semifinal, he blanked Cody Krumweide (Northern Iowa) 7-0, before falling to Heberlie again in the third-place match 5-4.

Other Campbell finishes include Michael Dahlstrom (141) and Taylor McGiffen (197) at 2-2, Daniel Luty (157) and Cody Ryba (174) at 1-2, while Drew Walker (133) and Collin Munson (149) went 0-2.

The Camels are back in action Jan. 1-2 at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn.
