Georgia Southern 3, The Citadel 0

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Christina Vereb matched a career high with 15 kills and collected a career-best 10 digs to lead Georgia Southern to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-10, 27-25) Southern Conference volleyball victory at The Citadel Tuesday evening.

Vereb also added three blocks for the Eagles (23-4, 11-2 SoCon), while Katie Bange recorded a career-high 15 kills to go along with three blocks. Jamie DeRatt contributed 10 kills and 10 digs, and Katalin Minnerly finished with 37 assists and 13 digs.

Lauren Hart led The Citadel (5-24, 0-13 SoCon) with six kills, and Amanda Rudnik had five kills and nine digs.

With the score tied 13-13 in the first set, Georgia Southern used a 7-1 run behind Minnerly’s serve to take control. Consecutive blocks by Enjoli Johnson and Bange ignited the spurt, and a Vereb kill made the margin 20-14. 

The Eagles went on to take the first set 25-18 and dominated the second frame as Georgia Southern led 10-8 before outscoring the Bulldogs 15-2 the rest of the way. The third set was tight, with 13 ties and two lead changes, and the Eagles had to fight off three set points. Trailing 25-24, Bange got a kill to even the score and consecutive Bulldog errors ended the match.
