SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Michaela Reesor, Appalachian State’s Meghan Mahoney and Davidson’s Mikayla Derochie have been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Players of the Week, respectively, for Nov. 4, the league office announced on Monday.
Reesor takes home her first Offensive Player of the Week award after leading Samford to a pair of wins over the weekend. She helped the Bulldogs earn wins over Davidson and Chattanooga, notching 20 kills in each match. Her .457 hitting percentage against Davidson was her highest total against a SoCon opponent in 2013. The junior outside hitter finished the weekend with 40 kills on 78 total attacks with 14 errors for a .333 hitting percentage.
Mahoney earns back-to-back Defensive Player of the Week honors, leading Appalachian State to sweeps of Elon and UNCG over the weekend. The sophomore posted 47 digs in six sets, averaging 7.83 over Appalachian State’s two matches. She totaled 25 digs in the Mountaineers’ sweep of Elon on Friday. Mahoney then posted 22 digs in their 3-0 win over UNCG. This is Mahoney’s fourth Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
Derochie receives her sixth Freshman of the Week award, setting a new SoCon record. She topped Furman’s Jo Wilks, who won five Freshman of the Week awards in 2012. Derochie posted 85 assists in Davidson’s two matches over the weekend, averaging 12.14 assists per set in seven sets of play. She finished with 32 assists in the Wildcats’ 3-0 loss to Samford. She then tied her career high with 53 assists against Chattanooga, leading Davidson to a 3-1 victory. She also posted 10 digs against the Mocs to earn her seventh double-double of 2013.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were: The Citadel’s Erin Bucherl, Davidson’s Caroline Brown, Elon’s Ally Karle, Furman’s Elle Ross, Georgia Southern’s Kym Coley, Samford’s Chelsi Carter, Western Carolina’s Morgan Cochran and Wofford’s Liz Buterbaugh.
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week were: The Citadel’s Maureen Wilkinson, Elon’s Ally Karle and Furman’s Casey Wells.
