SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Makensey Campbell, a women’s basketball player at Western Carolina, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Nov. 27, the league office announced Wednesday.
Campbell, a Johnson City, Tenn., native, is a junior biology major and currently holds a 3.98 GPA. This is Campbell’s second career Student-Athlete of the Week award, as she also won the award on Feb. 6, 2013.
Campbell led the Catamounts to a 3-0 week, including wins over UNC Asheville, Georgia State and Appalachian State. She scored in double figures in two of the three contests, highlighted by an 18-point performance in WCU’s 71-63 victory over Appalachian State on Tuesday. Campbell averaged 13 points and four rebounds in the three Catamount wins, hitting six 3-pointers on 66.7-percent shooting from behind the arc.
Also nominated for Student-Athlete of the Week were Appalachian State football player Karl Anderson and Citadel men’s basketball player Ashton Moore.
