SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina guard Trey Sumler has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played Nov. 19-25, while The Citadel’s Brian White earned the CRONS Freshman of the Week Award, the league office announced today (Nov. 26).
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Trey Sumler, Western Carolina, Sr., G, Rocky Mount, N.C.
Sumler averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 6.3 assists over three games last week. The senior scored a career-high 35 points in Western Carolina’s 98-90 win over Niagara as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in Kent, Ohio. He added 10 assists against the Golden Flashes to record his first double-double of the season. Sumler followed up that performance with 16 points and nine rebounds in a loss to USC Upstate. He is the fifth-leading scorer in the conference with 17.2 points per game and ranks second in assists (4.5 apg).

CRONS Freshman of the Week: Brian White, The Citadel, F, Richmond, Va.
The Citadel’s Brian White averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last week as the Bulldogs fell at Wake Forest before defeating Montreat. White connected on 16-of-21 (.762) attempts from the floor and added two assists and a blocked shot last week. It is the second time he has taken home the honor this season after collecting the league’s freshman award on Nov. 12. White ranks second in scoring (15.0 ppg) among league freshman and is fourth in the conference overall in rebounding (7.3 rpg).
