DeVita Earns U-20 National Team Camp Invite

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman women’s soccer standout Stephanie DeVita has been invited to the United States U-20 National Team’s training camp Nov. 24 to Dec. 1, at the United States Soccer National Training Center at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

“Stephanie played very well for us this past season, and we are excited that she has been given the opportunity to display her talents at the next level,” said Furman head coach Andrew Burr, the 2013 SoCon Coach of the Year. “I know she will represent Furman well.”

DeVita, a sophomore, tallied 15 goals, including seven match-winners, and added nine assists in 23 matches this season. The Simpsonville, S.C., native and Hillcrest High School product captured first-team All-Southern Conference honors and SoCon tournament MVP accolades this season while leading the Paladins to a 17-4-2 record and the league’s regular-season and tournament titles.

In two seasons at Furman, DeVita has netted 34 goals and registered 13 assists. The 2012 SoCon Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year ranks in the school’s career top 10 in goals, total points and match-winning goals. She has helped Furman to a combined 33-7-5 mark in two seasons.

U.S. U-20 coach Michelle French will be evaluating players ahead of the team’s mid-December camp in Florida and the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship in the Cayman Islands in January 2014. The U.S. is one of eight teams in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship that will be playing for one of three spots in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. French is expected to name additional players to the camp roster shortly.
