SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Karrian Chambers, Georgia Southern’s Alexandra Beecher and Furman’s Annie Bierman have been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Players of the Week, respectively, for Nov. 18, the league office announced on Monday.
Chambers notched her second straight Offensive Player of the Week award after leading UNCG to a pair of wins last week. The senior posted 13 kills while hitting .346 in a 3-0 sweep of Elon on Wednesday, following that performance with a 17-kill match against Davidson. Chambers finished the weekend averaging 4.29 kills per set and posted 30 kills on 66 total attacks with 14 errors for a .242 hitting clip.
Beecher collected 46 digs in seven sets over the weekend to help the Eagles clinch the SoCon regular-season title and earn Defensive Player of the Week honors. She notched 25 digs in a 3-1 win over Western Carolina and 21 digs in GSU’s sweep of Appalachian State. Beecher averaged 6.71 digs per set in the two matches and earned her seventh and eighth 20-dig matches of the season.
Bierman is this week’s Freshman of the Week after scoring a pair of double-doubles for the Paladins over the weekend. She totaled 10 kills and 13 digs in Furman’s loss to Samford on Friday before recording a career-high 21 kills and 19 digs and hitting a team-best .356 to lead Furman past Chattanooga 3-2. Bierman averaged 3.44 kills and 3.56 digs per set over the weekend and ended with 31 total kills and 32 digs.
