SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern’s Jelani Hewitt has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for all games played through Nov. 11, while The Citadel’s Brian White earned the CRONS Freshman of the Week Award, the league office announced Tuesday (Nov. 12).

A junior guard, Hewitt averaged 25.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a pair of games for the Eagles.  The Miramar, Fla., native opened the season with a 25-point effort against Columbia International last Friday.  He followed that performance with 27 points in an overtime loss at Miami (Fla.) Monday night.  Hewitt went 8-for-8 at the free throw line against the Hurricanes, including hitting both free throws with seven seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
