Chambers, Carter, Karle Earn Volleyball Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Karrian Chambers, Samford’s Chelsi Carter and Elon’s Ally Karle have been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Players of the Week, respectively, for Nov. 11, the league office announced on Monday.

Chambers posted 31 kills in seven sets played over the weekend to average 4.43 kills per set and earn Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. The senior committed just four errors on 73 total attacks to hit .370 in two Spartan matches. Chambers totaled 14 kills on 25 attempts with just one error in the Spartans’ loss to Furman on Friday, finishing with a .520 hitting percentage. She paired that performance with a 17-kill match against Wofford on Saturday, leading UNCG to a 3-1 win. In the victory, Chambers also posted 26 digs to earn her ninth double-double of the season.

Carter helped Samford to two wins over the weekend, finishing with 50 digs and a 6.25 dig-per-set average to earn Defensive Player of the Week. She put up 19 digs in a 3-1 win over Appalachian State on Friday and followed that with a 31-dig match against Western Carolina on Saturday. Her 31 digs against the Catamounts set a new career-high.

Karle earns her first Freshman of the Week award after finishing the weekend with 34 kills, nine total blocks and a .406 hitting percentage. She posted 34 kills on 64 total attempts with eight errors to finish with a .406 hitting percentage to lead the Phoenix over the weekend. Karle averaged 4.25 kills over eight sets and added 1.12 blocks per set in Elon’s two matches. She finished with 16 kills and four blocks against Wofford on Friday and followed that performance with an 18-kill, five-block performance against Furman on Saturday.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were: The Citadel’s Lauren Hurt, Davidson’s Morgan Shannon, Elon’s Ally Karle, Furman’s Elle Ross, Georgia Southern’s Katie Bange, UNCG’s Katherine Santiago and Wofford’s Jessica Graham.

Also nominated for Freshman of the Week were: The Citadel’s Samantha Espy, Davidson’s Mikayla Derochie, Furman’s Annie Bierman, UNCG’s Sara Hohman, Samford’s Gabbi Greenwald and Wofford’s Ellie Tallman.
