Furman's DeVita Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Stephanie DeVita has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 30 to Oct. 6. The selection is made by the league office.

DeVita, the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, scored four points on the week to help Furman to a pair of league wins and sole possession of first place in the conference standings.

In a 9-0 win over Chattanooga on Thursday, DeVita scored her league-best ninth goal of the season.

The Simpsonville, S.C., sophomore assisted on both Furman goals in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Samford in a clash of the preseason SoCon favorites. The Paladins’ win snapped Samford’s seven-match unbeaten streak and extended their own to nine matches.

With nine goals and five assists on the season, DeVita leads the SoCon with 23 points.

The award is the first of the season for DeVita and the second of her career.

Furman (9-2-1, 3-0-0 SoCon) returns to action Friday at UNCG (7-4-1, 2-0-1 SoCon) at 7 p.m.
