Elon's Dean Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon goalkeeper Nathan Dean has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 30 to Oct. 6. The selection is made by the league office.

Dean posted a pair of 1-0 shutouts as the 21st-ranked Phoenix went 2-0 on the week.

Against Campbell on Oct. 1, Dean made six saves for his third shutout of the season. The Liverpool, England, native added his fourth on Saturday against Appalachian State, making two saves to keep the Mountaineers off the board.

That shutout was the 14th of his career, putting him second among active SoCon players and one shy of third place in school history.

The award is Dean’s second in the last three weeks, as he also the league’s player of the week on Sept. 24.

Elon (9-1-1, 1-0-0 SoCon) returns to action Saturday at Wofford (6-3-1, 2-0-0 SoCon) at 7 p.m.

Also nominated: Valeriy Sviderskiy (Davidson) and Matthew Aurednik (Wofford).
