SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State’s Emily Corrigan and Meghan Mahoney and UNCG’s Sara Hohman have been named the Southern Conference Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Players of the Week, respectively, for Oct. 28, the league office announced on Monday.
Corrigan receives her second Offensive Player of the Week honor of 2013 after leading Appalachian State to a pair of wins over the weekend. She paced the Mountaineers with 26 kills in a 3-2 defeat of Davidson on Saturday, posting just four errors on 60 attacks for a .367 hitting percentage. On Sunday, the sophomore scored 16 kills in a 3-0 sweep over Western Carolina. Corrigan finished the weekend averaging 5.25 kills per set, with 42 total kills on 99 total attacks and a .333 hitting percentage.
Mahoney takes home her third Defensive Player of the Week award for her play over the weekend. She led the Mountaineers in digs in a pair of Appalachian State wins last weekend. She posted her second 30-dig match of the year in App’s 3-2 win at Davidson, finishing with 32 digs. Mahoney followed that performance with a match-high 21 digs in a sweep of Western Carolina on Sunday. She ended the weekend averaging 6.62 digs per set, totaling 53 digs in eight sets.
Hohman is the SoCon Freshman of the Week after helping lead the Spartans to wins over Wofford and Furman over the weekend. She averaged 11.38 assists and 4.00 digs per set over the weekend, dishing out 37 assists and compiling 10 digs against Wofford on Friday. She came back with an even stronger performance on Saturday, totaling 54 assists and 22 digs in a 3-1 UNCG win. Her two double-doubles on the weekend give her six on the season.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were: The Citadel’s Lauren Hurt, Elon’s Ally Karle, Furman’s Elle Ross, Georgia Southern’s Alexandra Beecher, UNCG’s Katherine Santiago, Samford’s Chelsi Carter, Western Carolina’s Morgan Cochran and Wofford’s Bekah Dorsey.
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week were: Appalachian State’s Kat Ferrell, The Citadel’s Samantha Espy, Davidson’s Mikayla Derochie, Furman’s Ashton Gregory and Chattanooga’s Anne Bachmann.
