Men's Soccer Southern Conference

Furman's Edet Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Bobby Edet has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 14-20. The selection is made by the league office.

The freshman from Frisco, Texas, scored a goal and added an assist as the Paladins topped a pair of ranked opponents last week.

Edet assisted on Furman’s first goal Tuesday, Oct. 15, as the Paladins knocked off No. 9 Clemson on the road, 2-1.

Edet then notched the game-winning goal as Furman downed No. 25 Elon 1-0 in a clash of ranked SoCon teams on Saturday. The Paladins entered the match ranked 22nd in the NSCAA Continental Tire Top 25 and are now as high as No. 11 in the Soccer America Top 25, moving into that poll Monday after being unranked in it last week.

Four of Edet’s seven goals this season are game-winners, which leads the league. His seven goals are second-most in the SoCon.

The player of the week award is the first of Edet’s career.

Furman (10-1-2, 2-0-2 SoCon) returns to action Wednesday at Georgia State. The Paladins return to league play Oct. 29 when it hosts Georgia Southern (5-8-0, 1-3-0).

Also nominated: Stanley Broaden (Appalachian State), Matt Wescoe (Elon), Roberto Lopez (Georgia Southern) and Connor Davis (Wofford).
