SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Citadel forward Nicole Levermann has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 14-20. The selection is made by the league office.
Levermann scored six points on three goals to lead The Citadel to a weekend sweep of road matches at Samford and Chattanooga.
In Friday’s 3-2 win over then-league-leading Samford, Levermann scored The Citadel’s first two goals of the match to help the Bulldogs to their first-ever win over Samford.
In Sunday’s 3-1 win over Chattanooga, the New Braunfels, Texas, senior scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 31st minute. The goal was her fifth of the season and 17th of her career, putting her fifth in school history.
The weekly award is the second of Levermann’s career and first since 2010.
The weekend SoCon sweep was The Citadel’s first since the 2010 season. More importantly, it moved the Bulldogs (5-8-2, 3-5-0 SoCon) to nine points in the league standings and lifted them into a tie for eighth place with just a week and a half left in regular-season play. The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will earn spots in the SoCon Women’s Soccer Championship.
The Citadel wraps up its conference slate this weekend with home matches against Appalachian State (6-5-4, 3-1-4) on Friday and Western Carolina (7-8-1, 2-6-0) on Sunday. The Bulldogs will be seeking just their second-ever SoCon Championship berth.
Also nominated: Megan Roberson (Appalachian State), Catherine Brinkman (Elon), Rose Hull (Furman), Nora El-Shami (Georgia Southern) and Kimberly Cohn (Wofford).
