– Andy Summerlin, a graduate student and quarterback on the Samford football team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 2, the league office announced Wednesday.

Summerlin, a native of Apopka, Fla., is currently enrolled in Samford’s MBA program and holds a 3.87 GPA.

Summerlin completed 16-of-22 passes for 327 yards and a career-high four touchdowns in Samfords 62-23 win over Western Carolina on Saturday. He leads the SoCon in passing yards per game and ranks second in pass efficiency and total offense.

Also nominated for student-athlete of the week were Appalachian State men’s soccer player Stanley Broaden, Davidson women’s soccer player Julia Singley, Furman women’s soccer player India Robinson and Chattanooga football player Davis Tull.
