SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Amanda Liguori, an outside hitter on the Wofford volleyball team, has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 16, the league office announced Wednesday.
Liguori, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., is an art major and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.76. She earned her 1,000th career dig on Saturday in Wofford’s win over Appalachian State to become the fourth Terrier to total 1,000 career digs and 1,000 career kills.
Liguori led Wofford to two wins over the weekend, giving the Terriers a three-game winning streak for the first time since 1997. She posted 3.125 kills per set and 2.625 digs per set over the weekend, and notched 16 kills and 12 digs in a 3-2 victory over Western Carolina on Friday to earn her eighth double-double of 2013. The senior followed that performance with nine kills and nine digs in a 3-0 sweep of Appalachian State. Liguori is currently sixth in the SoCon in kills per set at 3.18.
Also nominated for student-athlete of the week were Appalachian State volleyball player Lauren Gray, Citadel volleyball player Ise d’Angelo, Davidson women’s soccer player Jenni Isaac, Chattanooga football player Davis Tull and Western Carolina women’s soccer player Kimberly Sullivan.
