Furman's Alexander Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Jamie Alexander has been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 7-13. The selection is made by the league office.

Alexander scored seven points on three goals and an assist as Furman went 1-1 on the week.

In Friday’s 3-0 win over UNCG, the sophomore from Martinez, Ga., scored two goals, including the game-winner in just the second minute of play.

Alexander followed that up with a goal and an assist in Sunday’s 4-3 loss to Elon, which snapped the Paladins’ 10-match unbeaten streak. She again scored Furman’s first goal of the game and assisted on the second as Furman got out to a 2-0 lead before the Phoenix rallied late for the win.

Furman’s second-leading scorer with 17 points on six goals and five assists, Alexander is tied for third in the league in scoring.

The weekly award is the second of Alexander’s career. Furman has now won the award in consecutive weeks, as Stephanie DeVita earned the honor on Oct. 8.

Furman (10-3-1, 4-1-0 SoCon) returns to action Friday at Western Carolina (7-6-1, 2-4-0 SoCon) at 7 p.m.
