Furman's Lissek Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman goalkeeper Sven Lissek has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Oct. 7-13. The selection is made by the league office.

Lissek posted a pair of shutouts as the 15th-ranked Paladins went 1-0-1 on the week.

The Sewau, Germany, sophomore posted three saves on Tuesday, Oct. 8, to help Furman to a scoreless draw with UNCG. Lissek added his seventh shutout of the season Saturday against Davidson, notching another two saves in the Paladins’ 2-0 win.

The flawless week dropped Lissek’s goals-against average to a league-best 0.44 on the year as Furman extended its unbeaten streak to nine matches. On Monday, Lissek was named to College Soccer News’ National Team of the Week.

Lissek became the third different Paladin to earn the weekly SoCon award this season, joining teammates Martin Ontiveros and Tyler Peoples.

Furman (8-1-2, 1-0-2 SoCon) returns to action Tuesday in a battle of top-25 teams when it takes on Clemson in Clemson, S.C., at 7 p.m.

Also nominated: James Brace (Elon), Stephen Moffitt (UNCG) and Garrett Close (Wofford).
