Citadel women finish sixth, men eigth at Disney Classic

Orlando, Fla. – The Citadel men's and women's cross country teams placed eighth and sixth, respectively, at the Disney Classic on Saturday held on the campus of ESPN's Wide World of Sports.

Danielle McKee led the Bulldogs and finished 20th out of 200 runners with a season-best time of 18:47.

A duo of freshmen runners, Emani Little (41^st, 19:34) and Ashley Beach (52^nd, 20:01) paced Mckee in the 5k race. Jessica Dewitte (67^th, 20:36) and Nicole Ogilbee (73^rd, 20:45) closed out The Citadel's top-five runners.

Raeven Lantz finished 16^th in a field of 152 collegiate runners and recorded a career-best time of 26:02 in the men's 8k race. Freshman Ross Jordan earned a career-best time of 26:45 and placed 25^th. Paul Fleckenstein (46^th, 27:35), Grant Smith (53^rd, 28:01) and Matthew Gill (55^th, 28:03) rounded out top-five for the Bulldogs.

The Citadel will head to Boone, N.C., for the Blue Ridge Open on Oct. 18. 

UNCG competes at Royals Cross Country Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNCG men’s and women’s cross country teams sent a small contingent to Charlotte Friday and raced in the Royals Cross Country Challenge hosted by Queens at McAlpine Park. The men’s race ran on the 8,000-meter course while the women’s race ran on the 5,000-meter course.

Five men’s runners took part in the event with freshman Dakarai Shipp  leading the way with a 20^th place showing. Shipp posted a time of 27:38.50 and freshman Max Chandler  turned in a time of 27:48.9 to place 22^nd overall. Brian Schoepfer of Duke won the event in a time of 25:09.20.

Rounding out the men’s side was freshman David Guthrie and sophomore John Elwood who placed 27th and 31^st, respectively.

On the women’s side, three runner took part in the event with freshman Samiiah turning in the top time for the Spartans at 19:!5.8 to place 22^nd overall. Freshman Katlyn Adkins  posted a time of 21:10.4 on the 5,000-meter course to place 36^th overall. Sophomore Meredith Hicks finished in a time of 22:05.0, placing 43^rd overall. Meredith Miller of South Carolina won the women’s event in a time of 17:03.60.

The Spartans return to action Oct. 19 as they travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for the Pre-National Invitational run on the same course as the National Championships in November.
