VENICE, Fla. – Former Furman women’s golfer Stefanie Kenoyer (-1) carded a 72 on Friday to tie for 20th in the final round of the LPGA Qualifying School Stage II tournament at the par-72 Plantation Golf and Country Club. The top 80 golfers from Stage II move on to Stage III, which will be contested Dec. 4-8, at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Kenoyer, who competed on “Big Break Mexico” last summer, is one of 12 competitors who is appearing on Golf Channel’s Big Break reality competition this fall. “Big Break NLF Puerto Rico” airs on the Golf Channel on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. The show features six retired NFL superstars, including Jerry Rice, Chris Doleman, Tim Brown, Mark Rypien, Marc Bulger and Al Del Greco, along with 12 professional golfers, six men and six women, who each participated in recent seasons of Big Break, pursuing their dreams of playing on either the PGA or LPGA Tour.
The 12-member cast will compete in various golf-related skills challenges at the Dorado Beach Resort in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico. An exemption to compete in tournaments on the LPGA or PTA Tour in 2014, cash and prizes await the winner.
Kenoyer, who graduated from Furman in 2011 with a degree in political science, is in her third season as a member of the Symetra Tour. She played in 14 tour events last season and registered three top-10 finishes, including a ninth-place finish at the Symetra Tour Championship. Kenoyer led the Paladins to a pair of Southern Conference titles, three NCAA regional berths and a trip to the 2008 NCAA Championship. A four-time All-Southern Conference pick, she captured 2008 and 2009 SoCon individual medalist honors, while earning SoCon Player of the Year accolades in 2009 and 2010.
The Lighthouse Point, Fla., native was originally encouraged to try out for “Big Break Mexico” by former Paladin standout and current UNCG coach Sara Sargent, who competed in “Big Break VI: Trump National” before earning her LPGA Tour card.
