Western Carolina leads Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate
PALM DESERT, Calif. – Led by Taylor Allison’s 149 36-hole score, the Western Carolina women’s golf team leads heading into the final round of the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate at par-72 6,112-yard The Classic Club/Troon Golf Course.
The Catamounts opened play with a first-round score of 300 and followed with 301 over the final 18 holes for a 601 Saturday. WCU leads the two-day, 54-hole event by three strokes with the final 18 holes scheduled for the 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
CSU Fullerton (303-301=604) and San Francisco (300-304=604) are tied for second, with Rollins in fourth after rounds of 303 and 307 for a 610 36-hole score.
Allison’s 149 is five strokes over par as she sits tied for 10th after 36 holes. The sophomore carded a 4-over 76 after the first 18 holes but rebounded on the second 18 holes with a 1-over 73.
Cal Poly’s Taylor Yoshitake (73-70=143) and CSU-Northridge’s Clariss Guce (69-74=143) share the top spot on the leaderboard heading into the last day.
Western Carolina sophomore Kim Mitchell follows Allison by a stroke after shooting a 150. She opened play with a par 72, before shooting a 78 the final 18 holes of the day to finish tied for 12th. Sophomore Kristin Swindell sits in a tie for 18th after rounds of 77 and 75 for a 152, while classmate Mariah Hopkins entered the clubhouse tied for 22nd at the end of the day after rounds of 78 and 75 for 153. Freshman Olivia Landino signed her scorecard after in a tie for 38th with a 156 after rounds of 75 and 80.
Chattanooga 10th at Diane Thomason Invitational
IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Chattanooga Mocs women’s golf team is in 10th place after 36 holes of the Diane Thomason Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course. UTC shot 320 and 307 Saturday for a total of 627 to trail ninth-place Kansas State (621) by six.
Jordan Britt paced the Mocs’ effort with rounds of 77 and 78 for a total of 155. She’s two clear of Emily McLennan, who shot 157. McLennan had the low round of the day for the squad with a 73 (+1) for her second 18.
Agathe Sauzon is next up at 158. She is followed by Isabella Loza and Porsche Campbell at 162 and 166, respectively. Mette Kryger played as an individual, carding 75 and 79 for 154.
Illinois owns the team lead at 600. Kansas is second at 601, with GRU Augusta (formerly Augusta State) in third at 603. The Fighting Illini’s Stephanie Miller is the individual leader at even-par (144). Augusta’s Jessica Haigwood and Josefine Nyqvist are tied for second at plus-3 (147).
The final round starts Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Eastern time. Chattanooga plays with Michigan and USF, its partners for Saturday’s 36 holes. The Mocs topped USF by eight and the Wolverines by 13. Sunday’s groups begin on holes 12-15 in the shotgun start.
