Furman's Peoples Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Tyler Peoples has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition Sept. 23-29. The selection is made by the league office.

Peoples, a sophomore from Conyers, Ga., helped the nationally ranked Paladins to a 2-0-1 week with a pair of a crucial goals.

Furman, which Monday entered the College Soccer News poll at No. 30 and moved up one spot to No. 16 in the Top Drawer Soccer Top 25, topped Gardner-Webb and James Madison and played to a draw with Appalachian State last week.

After topping Gardner-Webb 1-0 on Sept. 23, Furman downed JMU by the same score in double overtime Friday, with Peoples providing the golden goal in the 105th minute.

Peoples struck again Sunday, tallying the tying goal in the 76th minute to help Furman pick up the point in its SoCon opener with a 1-1 draw against the Mountaineers.

The weekly award is the first of Peoples’ career.

Furman (7-1-1, 0-0-1 SoCon) returns to the pitch Tuesday, Oct. 8, at UNCG (5-4-0, 0-0-0 SoCon).

Also nominated: Stanley Broaden (Appalachian State), Valeriy Sviderskiy (Davidson), Daniel Lovitz (Elon), Witt Carlisle (Georgia Southern), Stephen Moffitt (UNCG) and Connor Davis (Wofford).
