Mocs Track Post PRs at
UK’s McCravy Memorial Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Six University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga runners set personal records (PRs) Saturday at the Rod McCravy
Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky at the Nutter Field
House.
Senior Nathan Wanuch (Mississauga, Ontario) topped his PR in
the men’s Mile Run with a time of 4:17.13 while junior John Gilpin (Nashville,
Tenn.) also set a PR in the race posting a time of 4:26.50.
In the women’s 400m dash, junior Gabby Cader (Cleveland,
Tenn.) topped her previous best with a time of 1:00.15 along with sophomore
Ambria Reese (Memphis, Tenn.) posted a PR of 1:02.63.
In the women’s 800m sophomore Jessica Philpott (Manchester,
Tenn.) recorded her PR of 2:22.41. In the men’s 800m freshman Marquis Carter
(Memphis, Tenn.) bested his time from the Middle Tennessee Christmas
Invitational in December with a time of 1:56.69. Fellow freshman Trevor Janssen
(Jordan Station, Ontario) ran the 800m in a time of 1:55.94, just off the
school record 1:52.26 set by Ryan Kendall in 2002.
Sophomore Amanda Sumner (Bristol, Conn.) placed 18th in the
women’s 3000 meter Section 1&2 race with a time of 10:04.38 while sophomore
transfer Rachel Greenwall (Bogart, Ga.) won the women’s Section 3 race with a
time of 10:35.56. In the men’s 3000m Section 3 event, freshman Paul Stuart
(Brentwood, Tenn.) placed fourth in his first outdoor meet with a time of
8:44.51 while classmate Matthew Marshall (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) was 14th with
a time of 9:08.73.
There is no time to rest for the Mocs, however. Next
Saturday UTC will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., for the MTSU Blue Raider
Invitational at the Murphy Center.
Appalachian State
Track and Field Completes Kentucky Invitational
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Appalachian State University men's track
and field completed the Kentucky Invitational this afternoon, garnering six
top-ten finishes including senior Alex Taylor running a personal-best in the
800 meter run, which ranks him second all-time for Appalachian.
Taylor posted a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run, as
he ran a personal-best 1:50.81, which ranks him second all-time for the
Mountaineers.
App State would see a top-10 finish from senior Chris Moen
when he crossed the line at 4:12.98 in the mile run, earning a tenth place
finish overall, while Michael Lilley paced Appalachian in the 3,000 meter run,
finishing with a personal-best 8:28.89 for a 13th place finish.
Junior Josh Cox led the way for the Mountaineers in the
5,000 meter run as he took home a sixth place finish, running a personal-best
15:11.84 and sophomore Kyle McFoy followed closely behind, posting a
personal-best 15:16.44 and a seventh place finish.
Jared Stalling led Appalachian in field events, posting a
fourth place overall finish in the weight throw with a 18.80 meter throw and a
ninth place overall finish in the shot put with a 16.10 meter toss.
App State will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 1 when they
travel to Winston-Salem to compete in the JDL Invitational. The meet is
scheduled to start at 1 p.m.

team earned five top-ten finishes in the Kentucky Invitational this weekend at
Nutter Field House.
Senior Amanda Hamilton paced the Black and Gold for distance
runners as she placed sixth overall in the 3,000 meter run, crossing the line
at 9:48.20, while Maria Stickley finished second overall in section three of
the 3,000 meter run with a personal-best 10:35.88.
App State earned an eighth place finish in the 5,000 meter
run as junior Kayla Schneider ran a personal-best 18:21.97.
Junior Cassie Crawford led the way for Appalachian in field
events as she garnered a fifth place finish with a 3.65m jump in the pole vault
and Chelsea Farr placed ninth overall in the pole vault with a 3.65m jump.
App State will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 1 when they
travel to Winston-Salem to compete in the JDL Invitational. The meet is
scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
Western Carolina’s
Tayla Carter Ties School Record in 60m to Highlight McCravy Day Two
Freshman Tayla Carter tied a seven-year old Western Carolina
record in the 60-meter dash as the Catamounts wrapped up the McCravy Memorial
Meet at the University of Kentucky, Saturday.
The recently-named Southern Conference Track Athlete of the
Week, Carter ran a 7.65 in the 60m in the preliminaries of the event to earn an
initial seventh fastest time in the 60-meters. In the finals of the event later
in the afternoon, Carter ran the record-tying time to earn a fourth place
finish, the highest overall finish of any Catamounts. The record was originally
set in 2006 by former WCU athlete Tangelia Johnson.
On the men’s side, sophomore Jerry Wickerson had a great day
for the Catamounts. Wickerson earned two top 10 finishes on the day in the
60-meter and 200-meter dashes. Wickerson – who held the SoCon’s fastest 60m
time prior to this weekend – ran a 6.92 to place sixth. Wickerson earned his
second sixth place finish matching his personal-best in the 200-meter dash,
22.08.
In the men’s 400-meter dash, three Catamounts earned top 15
finishes led by Brandon Hairston who placed seventh. Hairston ran a season-best
48.22 in the event while teammates Aaron Tribble (48.92-12th) and Earl Rahming
(15th-49.21) rounded out the top 15.
On the women’s side in the 400m, sophomore Genevieve Emrick
– who also holds the current best time in the SoCon – was the sixth fastest
collegiate time (56.52) and ninth overall.
In the women’s mile, senior Mara Smith finished a mere
second off her personal-best, placing 16th with her time of 5:05.88. Freshman
Kaitlyn Shetler ran a 5:17.41 (28th).
The women’s 800-meter run was also a strong race for the
Catamounts as three finished in the top 14 led by sophomore Lena Elliott.
Elliott placed tenth running 2:14.97 while Hayley Tomlinson followed Elliott in
eleventh running a 2:15.01. Jocelyn Keen placed fourteenth with her time of
2:25.28.
Nolan Clark ran a personal-best and a team-best for 2013 in
the mile with his time of 4:18.18 to finish sixteenth. Senior Garrett West ran
a 4:20.88 to place 24th.
Both 4x400-meter relays placed in the top eight with the
men’s team running the fastest time of the year. Aaron Tribble, Brandon
Hairston, Aaron Harris and Earl Rahming ran a 3:15.53 to finish fourth while
the women’s team placed eighth with a 3:50.95.
Next weekend the Catamounts head to Winston-Salem, N.C., for
the Hilton Garden Invitational.
The Western Carolina men’s and women’s track & field
teams began competition in the McCravy Memorial Friday on the campus of the
University of Kentucky. The Catamounts earned three top 10 finishes on the day.
The men’s and women’s long jump was split into two divisions
with the top-seeded athletes competing in the long jump invitational and
everyone else competing in the long jump event. On the men’s side in the
invitational event, junior Bob McNeil was the seventh best collegiate finisher,
placing ninth overall logging 7.02m. His jump was just shy of his season-best
7.03m that he did last week in the Niswonger Invitational. In the women’s
invitational, senior Raven Parrish placed 19th (5.23m).
In the long jump event, sophomore Abraham Faison earned a
top five finish picking up a jump of 6.30m to finish fifth with teammate Tyler
Bell coming in sixth (5.94m). Junior Brittany Powell tied for thirteenth with
her best jump of 4.79m in the long jump while teammate Achsah Brice finished
two spots back with her jump of 4.78m.
Senior Ashley Wala cleared a season-high 3.50m on her first
attempt in the pole vault to earn an eleventh place finish.
In the men’s weight throw, senior Jamie Van Pelt tossed
16.62m on his third throw to finish fifteenth.

two of the McCravy Memorial begins with the men’s heptathlon 60m hurdles and

Elon Competes at Penn
State National
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., – Emily Tryon set a new school record
in the 3,000-meter run as the Elon women’s track and field team competed on the
second and final day at the Penn State National on Saturday, Jan. 26. Tryon ran
a time of 10:03.87 in the race, breaking her own school-record and finishing
seventh overall.
Tryon was one of three Elon runners to set new record times
in the 3,000-meter run with Tereza Novotna (10:04.13, 8th) and Allyson Oram
(10:07.73, 9th) joining her with the second and third fastest times on the
all-time performance list, respectively.
In the one-mile run, Christine Pacewicz broke into the
top-five on the performance list after setting a new personal record with a
time of 5:11.80.
Bria Bell nearly set a new personal-record in the 400-meter
run with a time of 57.81. Bell also had an impressive performance in the
200-meter dash after clocking in with a time of 25.29. Freshman Sydney Griffin
was not too far off with a time of 25.40, fourth-best on the all-time
performance list.
In the women’s high jump, Haley Laird and Megan Kirschling
both finished in the top 10 of the event with cleared heights of 5’5” (1.65m).
Charlise Morgan finished in the top-10 of the shot put with
a throw of 46’04.25” (14.13m), second-best throw in her career.
Elon returns to indoor competition next week in the Gene
Anderson Invitational at Chapel Hill, N.C.
Junior thrower Charlise Morgan extended her program-record
in the weight throw as the Elon women’s track and field team competed in the
first day of the Penn State National on Friday evening, Jan. 25. Morgan had a
toss of 52’01” (15.87m) for the Phoenix at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track
facility.
Morgan’s throw bests her record performance of last week,
when she threw for a then-school record of 51'11.75" (15.84) at the Wake
Forest Invitational. Morgan finished 14th overall in the event with Kimberlyn
Holt placing 23rd with a throw of 46’04” (14.12m).
Freshman Sydney Griffin also set a new personal-best in the
60-meter hurdles with a qualifying time of 8.73. The Marietta, Ga., native
improved by three seconds from her previous record she set last week at Wake
Forest.
Louise Prevoteau was 22nd in the long jump with a leap of
16’9.25” (5.11m). Haylee Dawe was 15th in the 5,000-meter run after crossing
the line with a time of 17:56.67.
Men's Track and Field
Completes Second Event of 2013 at Hokie Invitational
BLACKSBURG, Va. – The UNCG men's track and field team
concluded day two of the Hokie Invitational at Virginia Tech Friday evening
wrapping up its second event of the indoor track season.
Junior Abraham Kemboi (Eldoret, Kenya / Kipkabus) was UNCG's
top finisher of the second day at the Hokie Invitational placing fourth in the
5,000-meter race with a time of 15:22.74. He finished 20 seconds behind Norfolk
State's Natnael Meseret, who won the event in a time of 15:02.74.
Sophomore Brandon Cain (Graham, N.C. / Coker College) placed
seventh posting a time of 16:09.93 in the event.
Freshman John Elwood (Greensboro, N.C. / Northern Guilford)
finished the 600-meter race with a time of 1:26.62.
Classmate, Myles White made his debut in the 400-meter run
finishing with a time of 53.90. He finished six seconds behind James Taylor of
Norfolk State, who placed first in the event with a time of 47.15.
Freshman Joshua Crawford (Fayetteville, N.C. / South View),
junior Paul Chelimo (Chebiemit, Kenya / Chebiemit Boys School), and sophomores
Corey Paige (Charlotte, N.C. / Mallard Creek) and Eric Williams (Chapel Hill,
N.C. / Northwood) teamed up in the distance medley, posting a time of 10:29.98.
They finished ten seconds behind Charlotte's team, who won the race with a time
of 10:19.29.
The Spartans continue action at the Hilton Garden
Invitational, in Winston-Salem, Feb. 1, beginning at noon.
The Citadel Completes
Competition at Wesley A. Brown Invitational
Annapolis, Md. –The Citadel men's track and field team
closed out a successful day at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational on Saturday.
The meet was held at the state-of-the-art Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse on the
campus of The United States Naval Academy.
Geno Porter posted a huge personal-best in the weight throw,
recording a heave of 50'6.75" to lead all Bulldogs and nab sixth place in
the event.
Mike Sellers threw the shot put 48'.75" to set an
indoor personal-best and nab fourth place, while Dylan Gidado took sixth with a
throw of 45'8.5".
The relay team of Tevin Williams (52.0), Jamaal Brantley
(49.9), Kevin Poland (50.4) and Gus Vazquez-Milan (50.9) took first place in the
4x400 with a time of 3:23.25.
Brantley also ran a time of 22.22 in the 200 to move into
seventh in Citadel history, while Williams jumped to fourth place all-time in
the 400 with a time of 50.52.
Freshmen Cody Richardson and Darius Johnson improved their
times from last week in the 60 and 60 hurdles, respectively. Richardson posted
a new personal-best in the 60-sprint with a time of 7.15, while Johnson moved
into the ninth in school history in the 60 hurdles, clocking in at 8.98.
Eddie Jones, who was competing for the first time since
being crowned long jump champion at the 2012 outdoor conference championship,
posted a triple jump distance of 45'8.5" to earn third place.
Denard Smith took second in the long jump with a leap of
22'3.5".
Next up for the Bulldogs is the Hilton Garden Invitational
on the new JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. The 2013 SoCon Indoor
Championship will be held on the same track on Feb. 23-24.
Eagles Compete at
Jimmy Carnes Invitational
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Georgia Southern Track and Field
team finished up competition at the Jimmy Carnes Invite on Sunday Jan. 27. The
Eagles placed eighth in a tough field of 12 teams.
The Eagles top performers of the weekend were freshman
Keyanna Harris, sophomore Jasmine Walker and junior Cherrelle King. The athletes
finished third and fourth in their respective events.
Harris was the first Eagle of the day to place in the top
three when she jumped for 1.56m, two centimeters short of her personal best, in
the High Jump finishing third overall. Sophomore Jasmine Walker added a third
place finish of her own, leaping 5.67m in the Long Jump. Junior Cherelle King
rounded out the top performances with fourth place finish in the 400m Dash,
crossing the line in 58.55.
Sophomore Kimberly Thomas added another strong 400m Dash
performance to her resume when she finished in 58.95 for a sixth place in a
race of 19 athletes.
Just like last week, Jasmine Billlings qualified for the 55m
Hurdles finals. The senior placed sixth in the finals, ahead of 14 other
hurdlers, in 8.36.
Freshman Kelsey Chandler set two personal bests in the
Weight Throw (13.77m) and Shot Put (11.45m), good for an 11th and 10th place
finish.
Dana Edwards competed in her career-first pentathlon on
Saturday, placing eighth with 2762 points.
Ashleigh Rasheed earned her first collegiate first place finish when she
won the Shot Put round in the Pentathlon with a throw of 10.05m, finishing 10th
overall.
The Eagles will be back on the track next Friday and
Saturday at two day Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C
