SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford juniors Nathan
Hendershot and Tyler Kemp have been named the Southern Conference Men’s Indoor
Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections
are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Hendershot
recorded a school-record and conference-leading time of 1:51.78 in the 800m at
the Auburn Invitational. He also ran a leg on the conference-leading distance
medley relay.
Also
at the Auburn Invitational, Kemp’s high jump of 2.09m (6’10.25”) set a school record
in the event and put him in the conference lead in the event.
Western
Carolina freshman Tayla Carter and College of Charleston freshman RoShani
Glover have been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Indoor Track and Field
Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the
league’s track and field coaches.
On
the track, Carter won the invitational section of the women’s 60m dash at the
Niswonger Invitational with a time of 7.54. In the preliminaries, she clocked a
7.59 to advance to the invitational final. She also ran a leg on WCU’s 4x400m
relay team that claimed the Niswonger Invitational championship in the event
with a time of 3:50.25. Carter also clocked a 24.96 in the 200m dash and all
three performances are SoCon-leading times.
In the field events, Glover jumped 11.89m in the
triple jump to place fourth at the Wake Forest Invitational. She is currently
leading the conference standings in her event.
