BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Davidson women's tennis team opened the season on the road at ACC-foe Virginia Tech and dropped a 7-0 decision in their Spring season opener.

The Wildcats (0-1), who dropped all three doubles matches and were sweep in singles play, battled the Hokies (1-0) in most of their matches.

The No. 2 and 3 doubles teams of Stephani Synn and Nisha Crouser, and Catherine Wood and Frizzi Bschorer combined to win 10 games. Synn and Crouser played to an 8-6 decision, while Wood and Bschorer fell 8-4.

Crouser had a strong showing in singles action, winning the first set, 6-3 vs. Carol Kahoun at No. 4. She then fell 6-1, before playing a super tiebreaker that went to Kahoun, 12-10.

Synn netted three games each in her two sets at No. 3. Elaina Cummer made her collegiate Spring debut at No. 2 singles for the 'Cats, falling 6-3, 6-0.

Davidson now will start a nine-match homestand next weekend, Jan. 26, with a doubleheader against Radford and Brevard starting at 10 a.m.
