Furman?s Henning Tabbed Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman senior forward Coleton Henning has been named the Southern Conference’s men’s soccer player of the week for all matches Aug. 27 to Sept 2. The selection is made by the league office.

Henning scored three goals in as many games for the Paladins last week, helping the 17th-ranked squad to a 2-1 record.

After Furman topped Gardner-Webb 3-0 on Aug. 27, Henning scored the Paladins’ first goal in a 3-2 loss to Dayton at College of Charleston’s Nike/Aaron Olitsky Memorial Classic in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

The reigning SoCon Player of the Year, Henning scored both goals Sunday as Furman bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 2-0 triumph over Stanford. The Shawnee, Kan., native earned all-tournament honors for his play on the weekend.

The award is the third of Henning’s career. He was also the SoCon’s player of the week on Sept. 30, 2008, and Oct. 11, 2011.

Furman (3-1) returns to action this weekend when it hosts the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C. The Paladins will face UNCW on Friday and Memphis on Sunday.

Also nominated: Stanley Broaden (Appalachian State), Kees Heemskerk (College of Charleston), Andrew DiLallo (Davidson), Gabe Latigue (Elon), Witt Carlisle (Georgia Southern), Hakan Ilhan (UNCG) and Forrest Lasso (Wofford).
