SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Samford's Lauren Hutchinson, Chattanooga's Paula Passmore, and College of Charleston's Melissa Morello have been named the SoCon Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Volleyball Players of the Week, respectively, for September 24. The selections are made by the conference office.
Hutchinson, a senior middle blocker, was named Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after leading the Bulldogs in kills and hitting percentage last week. The Kennesaw, Ga. native recorded 24 kills with one error in two matches for a .639 hitting percentage. Hutchinson also recorded two total blocks, two services aces, six digs and an assist as the Bulldogs started 2-0 in SoCon play.
Passmore, a senior libero, was named Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The Merritt Island, Fla. native recorded 57 digs in two matches for the Mocs, for an average of 8.14 digs per set. She also recorded one service ace and four assists. Passmore leads the conference in digs so far this season.
College of Charleston's Melissa Morello was named the SoCon Freshman of the Week, her first such honor of the season. The outside hitter from Milwaukee, Wis. averaged 3.57 kills per set last week for the Cougars. Morello recorded 25 kills, one block, 17 digs and an assist for CofC who started the season 1-0 in SoCon play.
Nominated for Offensive Player of the Week were College of Charleston's Taeler Davis, The Citadel's Lauren Hurt, Davidson's Tindall Sewell, Furman's Natalie Braun, Georgia Southern's Moriah Bellissimo, UNCG's Kelsey Sidney, Samford's Lauren Hutchinson, Chattanooga's Christina Teter, and Western Carolina's Jordan Timmermann.
Nominated for Defensive Player of the Week were College of Charleston's Emily Shelton, The Citadel's Rachael Farrell, Davidson's Molly Crenshaw, Furman's Elle Ross, Georgia Southern's Kym Coley, UNCG's Kellie Orewiler, Samford's Alexis Bauer, Chattanooga, Paula Passmore, and Western Carolina's Morgan Cochran.
Nominated for Freshman of the Week were College of Charleston's Melissa Morello, The Citadel's Mikaela Tracy, Furman's Jo Wilks, Georgia Southern's Alexandra Beecher, UNCG's Lauren Betlach, Chattanooga's Julimar Alvarado, and Western Carolina's Nicole Ford.
