Appalachian State?s Holz Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Appalachian State sophomore forward Julia Holz has been named the Southern Conference’s women’s soccer player of the week for all matches Sept. 10-16. The award is selected by the league office.

Holz had a hand in three of Appalachian State’s four goals in a 4-2 win over UNC Asheville on Friday. The Marietta, Ga., native scored twice and assisted on another goal in the victory. The contest was Appalachian State’s lone match of the week.

After the Bulldogs scored first in the eighth minute, Holz assisted on the tying strike in the 12th minute to make it a 1-1 match. The Mountaineers added another goal in the 50th minute before Holz scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 60th. She would add another goal in the 88th minute to put the game out of reach.

The award is the first of Holz’s career.

Appalachian State (3-4) returns to action on Friday when it opens Southern Conference play by hosting UNCG (3-5) at 7 p.m.
