Men's Soccer 9/18/2012 11:02:00 AM Southern Conference Davidson?s Sviderskiy Named Player of the Week SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Davidson freshman forward Valeriy Sviderskiy has been named the Southern Conference’s men’s soccer player of the week for all matches Sept. 10-16. The selection is made by the league office. Sviderskiy scored three of Davidson’s six goals on the week as the Wildcats went 2-0 with a pair of golden-goal wins. In the first significant action of his young career, Sviderskiy came off the bench to score a pair of goals less than three minutes apart early in the second half of Davidson’s 4-3, overtime win over USC Upstate on Sept. 10. With the score tied at 1 at the break, the Richmond, Va., native put the Wildcats up by a pair with goals in the 49th and 51st minutes. Sviderskiy again provided a spark off the bench in a 2-1, double-overtime win over East Tennessee State on Saturday, scoring in the 80th minute to tie the contest and send it to extra time. Davidson would go on to the win in the second extra period to end the Bucs’ four-match winning streak. Davidson (3-2-1) returns to action Tuesday at No. 1 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.
