KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Three Southern Conference men's soccer players appear on the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, as jointly announced Monday by the Missouri Athletic Club and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Appalachian State's Lee Williams and Furman's Coleton Henning and Walker Zimmerman represent the league on the 42-member list.
The MAC Herman Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Williams returns to the Mountaineers' backline with 45 starts in the last three seasons, recording two assists and 19 shots. The Liverpool, England, native was named to the All-SoCon Second Team last season.
Henning, a native of Shawnee, Kan., returned to the Paladin lineup in 2011 after missing the 2010 season due to a knee injury. The forward netted seven goals and totaled four assists en route to earning NSCAA All-Region honors, SoCon Co-Player of the Year honors and All-SoCon accolades.
Zimmerman, a member of the United States U-20 National Team, scored five goals and added two assists while playing all 22 matches as a center back during his freshman campaign. The Lawrenceville, Ga., product was named third-team NSCAA All-American and SoCon Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-SoCon First Team.
The watch list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by Nov. 29. Member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced on Dec. 6. The winners will be announced at the awards' banquet on Jan. 11.
