Ervin Named Cape Cod All-Star

HARWICH, Mass.-Samford outfielder Phillip Ervin has been named a starter for the East All-Star Team for the prestigious Cape Cod League, the league announced on Friday.

Ervin, playing for the Harwich Mariners, leads the league in home runs with 10. He also leads his team in hits with 36, RBI with 26 and in batting average at .343 in 29 games so far this summer. Ervin also leads the team in stolen bases with eight in nine attempts.

Throughout the summer, Ervin has had multiple hits in 10 different games, including a 4-for-4 performance against Bourne on June 22. He has also had multiple RBI in eight games.

During his sophomore season in 2012, Ervin helped lead Samford to the best season in program history. The Bulldogs won a school-record 41 games and earned their first Southern Conference title and first NCAA Tournament bid.

Ervin led Samford in doubles with 18, and he ranked third on the team in batting with a .327 average in 2012. He was also third on the team in home runs with 10 and in RBI with 52.

The Cape Cod League All-Star Game will be held Saturday, July 28, at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Mass. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET). The game will be televised live on Fox College Sports.

 

Elon's Clark Earns Spot in Cape Cod League All-Star Game

CHATHAM, Mass. -- Rising Elon senior left-handed pitcher Dylan Clark has been recognized for his performance this summer with a spot on the East team for the 2012 Cape Cod League All-Star Game. The game will be hosted by the Harwich Mariners on Saturday, July 28 at 6 p.m. and will air on Fox College Sports.

Clark, a member of the Orleans Firebirds, has appeared in 10 games and made one start. He has logged 23.1 innings and allowed just 15 hits, three walks and five earned runs. Clark has posted 21 strikeouts and is 3-0 with a 1.93 ERA. His three wins are tied for second in the league. The Firebirds own an 18-13 record.

In his junior season with Elon, Clark led the Phoenix with nine victories (9-4). He concluded the year with a 3.76 ERA over 88.2 innings. In that span Clark struck out 64 and walked just 18 while holding opponents to a .244 batting average.
