GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman pitchers Tyler Wood and Matt Solter and Paladin outfielder Greg Harrison have been named to summer baseball league all-star teams.
Wood, a right-hander playing for the Oahu Paddlers, pitched a scoreless inning, recording two strikeouts, in the Hawaiian Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game on July 16. For the season the rising junior from St. Louis, Mo., has posted a 3-1 record with a 3.00 earned run average over 33.0 innings.
Solter, who pitches for Strasburg Express of the Valley Baseball League, also tossed a scoreless inning in the rain-shortened VBL All-Star Game played on July 8. The Paladin right-hander and rising sophomore from New Bern, N.C., has notched a 2-1 record, team leading five saves, and 1.48 ERA in 12 appearances this summer.
Harrison will represent the Thomasville HiToms in the Coastal Plains League All-Star Game, scheduled for July 23 in Wilson, N.C. A rising junior at Furman, he has started in 38 games and is currently batting .297 with four home runs and 25 RBI. Harrison is from Hilton Head and is the younger brother of former Paladin third baseman Brian Harrison, a 13th round draft selection of the New York Mets in 2010.
Another current Paladin posting solid summer league numbers is pitcher/infielder Alex Abrams of the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the Northwoods League. In nine mound appearances, the rising junior right-hander from Charleston has going 1-0 with a save and 0.68 ERA, notching 16 strikeouts in 13 1/3 innings of work.
