Ervin his .440 with three homers and nine RBI in six games last week
HARWICH, Mass. - Samford center fielder Phillip Ervin was named the Cape Cod League's Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
In six games last week, Ervin, playing for the Harwich Mariners, batted .440 with three home runs and nine RBI. In the Mariners' game against Bourne last Friday, he went 4-for-4, and his home run in the fourth inning helped Harwich to a 9-5 victory. He hit his league-leading fifth homer in Sunday's game against Yarmouth-Dennis, leading the Mariners to a 7-3 victory.
For the season, Ervin is batting .410 with five home runs, two doubles and 13 RBI. He has also has five stolen bases through the first 10 games of the season.
During the 2012 season at Samford, Ervin batted .327 with a team-high 18 doubles, 10 home runs and 52 RBI. He helped lead the Bulldogs to the best season in program history, winning a school-record 41 games, and earning the program's first SoCon title and first NCAA Tournament appearance.
