STATE COLLEGE, PA. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is tied for 18th after 18 holes at the NCAA East Regional on the Penn State Blue Course. UTC shot 311 and is tied with San Diego State and Augusta State.

Senior Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) is tied for 17th leading the Mocs with a one-over par 73. The 73 is even more impressive considering the wind and rain she battled during the round. She had a team-high three birdies and 11 pars.

Sophomore Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) carded a five-over par 77. She got off to a rough start bogeying three of the first four holes. She birdied 18 to close out her round.

Sophomore Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was one off Duvernay's pace. She ended her round with a nice birdie on the par three 17 and then dropping an eight-foot par putt on 18. Sophomore Sophie Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) shot 83, while freshman Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) posted an 87.

No. 25 South Carolina leads at even-par 288. No. 2 Alabama is second at 292 (+4), while No. 15 Florida stands in third at 294 (+6). Texas A&M's Katerina Ruzickova fired a five-under 67 to grab the lead by one over Janet Vongphoumy (Maryland).

Chattanooga returns to the course for round two of three in the morning. UTC tees off No.10 at 8:25 a.m., led by Kryger. She's followed by Weilguni (8:36), Britt (8:47), Duvernay (8:58) and Loza (9:09). Live scoring of the round can be found on the GoMocs.com women's golf schedule page.

Cnops tied for 39th at NCAA East Regional

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - UNCG women's golf standout Fanny Cnops fared well on day one of the NCAA Eastern Golf Regional on Thursday, shooting a 3-over par first-round score of 75 in her postseason debut.

With two rounds left to play at the Penn State Blue Course, Cnops is sitting tied for 39th place in a field of 124 competitors.

Katerina Ruzickova of Texas A&M is leading the field after one round of play. She shot an impressive 5-under par 67 Thursday and leads Maryland's Juliet Vongphoumy by just one stroke.

The team competition is being led by 25th-ranked South Carolina. Collectively, the Gamecocks are even par after the first round, as they hold a four-stroke lead over Alabama, the second-ranked team in the country.

Round two will get under way Friday at 7:30 a.m., while Cnops will tee off at 12:45 p.m.

Wearn Fires A First Round 77 At NCAA Women's Golf East Regional

State College, Pa. -- Furman's Laura Wearn (+5) fired a first round 77 on Thursday to grab a share of 59th at the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional at the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Pa.

The junior, playing at the NCAA East Regional as an individual, carded a one-over 37 on the back nine, but followed with bogeys on four of her first five holes after making the turn to shoot a 40 on the front nine. The Charlotte, N.C., native is 10 strokes behind first round lead Katerina Ruzickova of Texas A&M after 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament.

No. 25 South Carolina carded an opening-round 288 to hold a four-stroke advantage over second-ranked Alabama while the University of Florida rounded out the top three with a six-over 294.

Teams competing in the East Regional are Alabama, Arizona State, Duke, Texas A&M, Florida, Arizona, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Michigan State, Washington, Texas, Tulane, UCF, Wake Forest, Northwestern, San Diego State, Kent State, Maryland, Augusta State, Campbell, Chattanooga, Oral Roberts, Penn State, Jacksonville State and LIU Brooklyn. Fanny Cnops (UNCG), Charlotte Lorentzen (Georgia State), Katie Mundy (FIU), Michelle Piyapattra (Columbia) will join Wearn in competing as individuals.

The top eight teams in the regional's 24-team field and top two individuals not on a qualifying team at the NCAA East Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 22-25, at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
