Georgia Southern 6, Appalachian State 0
BOONE, N.C. - Behind a three-run homer from freshman Lexi Allen in the sixth inning, the top-seeded Georgia Southern Eagles blanked Appalachian State, 6-0 Thursday evening at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.

Sophomore Kourtny Thomas gave Georgia Southern a 2-0 lead when she hit a two-run home run to right center in the fourth inning.

Georgia Southern plated another run in the sixth, taking a 3-0 lead. Junior Tabby Douberley singled up the middle to bring home senior Jorie Walker. Douberley moved to second on the throw allowing sophomore Nicole Benton to advance to third.

Freshman Riley Carter came into relieve senior Caitlin Wainwright in the circle when freshman Lexi Allen hit a three-run homer, which was her second of the season. Allen's home run was the 20th homer of the 2012 Southern Conference tournament, which ties the tournament home run records which was set at Patriots Point in Charleston, S.C. back in 2008.

Sophomore Sarah Purvis (22-9) earned her second win of the tournament tossing x innings. The SoCon Pitcher of the Year allowed one hit and struck out eight batters. Wainwright (6-8 ) takes the loss in the circle. 

The Eagles improve to 40-17 on the season and will face Chattanooga tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. The Mountaineers fall to 22-24 on the season. Appalachian State will play Elon tomorrow at noon in the consolation bracket.

Chattanooga 6, College of Charleston 1
BOONE, N.C. - Behind three Chattanooga home runs in the sixth inning, the Lady Mocs were able to advance in the winner's bracket Thursday at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium after defeating College of Charleston, 6-1.

Junior Sara Poteat flied out to right field to bring home freshman Sarah Beth Roberts, putting Chattanooga on the board first. Sophomore Stephanie Rieck also flied out to right to give the Lady Mocs a 2-0 lead as sophomore Layne Rainey crossed the plate.

Sophomore Kelsey Hodgson put the Cougars on the board when she blasted a home run to left field.

In the sixth inning, Chattanooga blasted three home runs to extend their lead to 6-1 over College of Charleston. Chattanooga went on to extend their lead, 3-1 when senior designated player Michelle Fuzzard hit a home run to out to left. The homer was Fuzzard's 16th of the season. With two outs, senior Jessica Traxler and Roberts homered to extend Chattanooga's lead to 6-1.

Freshman Taylor Deason (24-7) picked up the win after going the distance in the circle. She allowed seven hits and struck out seven batters. Freshman Hope Klicker took the loss (16-9) in the circle. She gave up four earned runs during 5.2 innings of work.

Chattanooga improves their record to 39-14 and advances to face the Georgia Southern and Appalachian State tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. The Cougars drop to 33-22 on the season and will play UNCG tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the consolation bracket.

UNCG 6, Samford 5
BOONE, N.C. - Despite a late-game rally by Samford, the fourth-seeded UNCG Spartans defeated the ninth-seeded Bulldogs, 6-5 Thursday afternoon at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium.

UNCG grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Sophomore Katelyn Bedwell reached on an error allowing senior Alex Emeterio to score the first run for the Spartans before sophomore Aisha Figueroa crossed the plate.

The Spartans increased their lead by two runs in the third inning. Bedwell reached on an error, scoring sophomore Aubrey Baldwin while freshman Dominique Madruga singled through the right side to bring junior Eileen Horsmon home.

Samford's bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game. Freshman Abby Adams singled to right scoring junior Madeline Baker. Freshman Shelby Scott recorded her first hit of the tournament with a three-run homer to right center.

UNCG came back to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the fifth as junior Heather Robb's double scored Bedwell.

Bulldog pitcher Robyn Harmon singled out to center with two outs followed by a single from junior Alex Adams. Adams advanced on the throw while Harmon advanced to third. UNCG's starting pitcher Cory Matson loaded the bases with two outs after walking junior Misha Aldridge, but Abby Adams grounded out to Mattson ending the inning.

Baldwin single's in the sixth advanced the runners allowing Alcala to give UNCG a 6-4 lead. Scott blasted her second homer of the game over the center field fence pulling the Bulldogs back within one. Scott tied the league record for most home runs by an individual in a tournament game.

Mattson (14-17) earns the win in the circle. Harmon (5-12), who pitched her third game in two days, takes the loss.

Mattson allowed five hits and while Harmon gave up nine hits and struck out eight batters.

UNCG improves their record to 22-33 and advances in the consolation bracket and will face the loser of the Chattanooga and Appalachian State game tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Samford ended its 2012 campaign with a 14-42 record.
