SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Michelle Fuzzard has been named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, while College of Charleston’s Stephanie Saylors has been tabbed the Pitcher of the Week for all games April 3-8.
Fuzzard, who picks up her fourth weekly honor, went 4-for-6 at the plate last week with a home run and 5 RBI. She extended her career total to 69 with a pair of multi-hit games.
The senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., drew 10 walks during the conference series with Elon over the weekend and reached base 14 of 16 plate appearances.
Fuzzard, who compiled a 1.500 slugging percentage in the Lady Mocs five games last week, is the Southern Conference all-time RBI leader with 197.
Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State’s Meghan Smith, College of Charleston’s Lizzy Vaughn, UNCG’s Alex Emeterio and Georgia Southern’s Tabby Douberley.
Saylors tossed two complete-game shutouts last week. In 14 innings of work in the circle, she struck out 15 batters and only allowed six hits and no runs to record a 0.00 ERA. This is the third time this season Saylors has earned the Pitcher of the Week honor.
The right handed junior from Easley, S.C., held her opponents to a .122 batting average and didn’t allow a single extra-base hit. She has allowed only four run in her last 49 innings of work.
Saylors has thrown a complete game in her last 10 consecutive outings.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Appalachian State’s Caroline Wainwright, UNCG’s Erica Navarette, Georgia Southern’s Sarah Purvis and Chattanooga’s Taylor Deason.
