BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - UNCG capped off the Bryan National Collegiate with an exciting move up the leaderboard Sunday, firing its best round of the tournament to finish ninth. Spartan freshman Fanny Cnops continued her impressive rookie campaign with a runner-up finish individually.

The Spartans shot 294 Sunday to jump into the top 10 in the 17-team field. UNCG shot 306 in the first round and 300 on Saturday for the three-round total of 606.

Cnops finished 2-under par for the three-day tournament with a score of 214. The Belgium native, who shot 71 in the final round, finished two strokes behind Duke's Lindy Duncan, the No. 1 player in the country.

Cnops' top-10 finish was the seventh of her young career.

Ana Lucia Martinez shot 75 in her final round to tie for 16th place at 223 (75-73-75).

Courtney Taylor had a monster day Sunday, closing the tournament with an even par 72 to put her at 231 (79-80-72). Her solid final round moved her up 26 spots on the individual leaderboard to finish tied for 50th.

Begona Sarabia moved up one spot to finish tied for 69th, firing a 77 Sunday for a total of 234 (80-77-77). Berglind Bjornsdottir finished the 54-hole event tied for 82nd overall (79-86-76=241). Kelly Berry, who played as an individual, improved each round of play and finished in 93rd place with 272 (98-90-84).

No. 14 Tennessee (293-291-298=882) outlasted No. 10 Duke (298-295-289=882) in a one-hole playoff to become the 2012 team champion. UNCG finished ahead of three teams ranked in the top 25 nationally including NC State (21), Michigan State (24) and Virginia (25).

The Spartans will travel to Hilton Head, S.C., April 15-16 for the Southern Conference Championships.

Women's Golf Finishes 17th at Bryan National Collegiate

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's golf team finished in 17th place at the Bryan National Collegiate at the Bryan Players Course Sunday.

The Cougars shot rounds of 313-322-312=947 (+83) for the tournament. Duke won the golf tournament with rounds of 298-295-289=882 (+18).

Senior Leigh Whittaker and junior Katharina Boehm led the Cougars for the tournament as they each shot 15-over and tied for 50th out of 93 student-athletes.

Up next the Cougars travel to Hilton Head, S.C. April 15-17 for the Southern Conference Championship on the Moss Creek golf course.
