SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Ashley Schnell and Western Carolina’s Meghan Morton have been named the Southern Conference’s Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over the weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Schnell won the 1500m in a time of 4:23.57 at the Winston-Salem State College Invitational. Her time was a personal best by four seconds and she broke the UNCG school record.
The Lincoln, Neb., native’s time is the eighth-best in the east region and ranks 13th nationally.
Morton won the javelin throw with a toss of 42.69 (140’ 1”) at the Mountains vs. the Beaches Meet at UNC Wilmington.
The sophomore from Schwenksville, Pa., leads the Southern Conference by almost 11 feet in the event with a throw of 44.78 (146’ 11”).
