Elon's Silverman Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -  Elon's Cameron Silverman has been named the Southern Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches March 26 through April 1.  Silverman was 3-0 at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Phoenix last week.  It is the second time this season Silverman has won the award. 

All three of Silverman's wins came in straight sets as he opened the week with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Appalachian State's Alex Markov, last week's player of the week.  The Mount Kisco, N.Y., native followed up that performance with a
7-5, 6-2 victory over Furman's Andrew Mellow as the Paladins held off Elon, 4-3.  Silverman closed the week with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Wofford's Tinus Van Wyk in a 6-1 win for the Phoenix.

With three victories last week, Silverman is now 8-0 in league play at No. 1 singles.  He has won 11 of his last 12 matches overall. 

Silverman teamed with Eric Turner at No. 1 doubles against ASU and the Elon duo came away with an 8-3 win.  The sophomore was paired with Stefan Fortman for the first time this season over the weekend and the duo recorded wins over Furman's Alex Christ and Joel Cook (8-2) and Wofford's Rob Galloway and Van Wyk (8-1). 

Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Steve Karendal, College of Charleston's Kyle Parker, The Citadel's David Orces, Furman's Alex Christ, Georgia Southern's Andrew Dromsky, UNCG's Orcun Seyrek, Samford's Carson Kadi,  Chattanooga's Manuel Barroetavena, and Wofford's Walker Heffron.
