SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Jessica Traxler has been named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Western Carolina’s Jordan Garrett has been tabbed the Pitcher of the Week for all games April 16-22.
Traxler recorded a .500 batting average last week, going 7-for-14 at the plate with three home runs and eight RBI. She also drew four walks. The senior shortstop tallied a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .611 on-base percentage in the Lady Mocs’ five games.
The Chino Hills, Calif., native recorded a hit in each game and had two multi-hit games. She was also perfect defensively with six putouts and six assists.
Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State’s Michelle Lighton, College of Charleston’s Carly Corthell, Georgia Southern’s Marie Fogle, UNCG’s Eileen Horsmon and Western Carolina’s Kelly Braman.
Garrett, a freshman for the Catamounts, finished 2-0 last week as she helped Western Carolina earn a series sweep of Elon. In the series, she tossed 11.1 innings in the circle to record a 1.24 ERA.
The Henderson, N.C. native gave up nine hits and two earned runs while striking out 14 batters.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Appalachian State’s Caitlin Wainwright, Georgia Southern’s Allie Miles, UNCG’s Cory Mattson and Chattanooga’s Taylor Deason.
