SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Lee Gilmer and Davidson’s Stewart Dalton have been named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week for meets over last weekend. The selections are made by the league’s track and field coaches.
Gilmer finished third in the elite mile with a time of 4:04.36 at the Furman Invitational. His time converts to a 3:46.33 in the 1500m race.
The senior who hails from Mobile, Ala., is ranked third in the 1500m and second in the 800m in the league entering the conference championship.
Dalton set a new personal best in the long jump at the Carolina’s Cup at Winthrop, with a mark of 6.90m (22’7.75”).
With his mark, the sophomore jumped into the top 10 in Davidson history. Dalton’s leap also ranks him second in the Southern Conference.
The Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship will be held in Cullowhee, N.C., April 21-22.
