SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Erin Foster has been named the Southern Conference Softball Player of the Week, while College of Charleston’s Hope Klicker has been tabbed the Pitcher of the Week for all games April 10-15.
Foster turned in an average of .522 with 12 hits in Western Carolina’s seven games last week and recorded multiple hits in four of those seven. The senior outfielder blasted four home runs, including two against Chattanooga. Her two-run homer came at a critical time, giving the Catamounts a 3-2 lead over the Lady Mocs in the seventh.
The Salisbury, N.C. native scored eight runs, had seven RBI, two doubles and did not strike out in seven games. Foster now has 15 home runs this season, which leads the league and ranks her second in the Catamount record books. Her 54 hits ranks her second in the conference.
Also receiving nominations for player of the week were Appalachian State’s Caroline Rogers, College of Charleston’s Carly Corthell, Elon’s Carleigh Nester, Furman’s Jessie Homesley, Georgia Southern’s Lexi Allen, Samford’s Alex Allen and Chattanooga’s Stephanie Rieck.
Klicker tossed her first career perfect game on Tuesday at South Carolina State. The freshman left-hander also recorded a career-high 16 strikeouts in the win.
The Walla Walla, Wash., native took the loss in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader with Georgia Southern. She gave up five hits and struck out nine.
Also nominated for pitcher of the week were Appalachian State’s Caroline Wainwright, Elon’s O’Shea, Georgia Southern’s Sarah Purvis and Chattanooga’s Taylor Deason.
