SPARTANBURG, S.C. - College of Charleston shortstop Bradley Goodson has been named the Southern Conference Baseball Player of the Week while Davidson left-handed pitcher Henry Sisson has been selected as the league's Pitcher of the Week for all games from April 9-15.
Goodson had nine hits in four games last week as College of Charleston went 3-1 to move into a four-way tie for first place in the SoCon standings. The junior from Jacksonville, Fla., started the week with a 4-for-4, five RBI effort in the Cougars' 16-3 rout of Winthrop. Over the weekend, he added five hits, including a pair of doubles, as CofC took two-of-three from Samford. For the week, Goodson hit .692 with a home run and two doubles while driving in eight runs and scoring five.
Sisson threw the sixth no-hitter in Davidson history Friday night and the first since 2001 as the Wildcats shut out Wofford, 1-0. The milestone came in just Sisson's fifth career start as he upped his record to 2-1. The freshman from Chevy Chase, Md., allowed four base runners on three walks and an error and matched his career high of nine strikeouts. The no-hitter was the first in the SoCon since College of Charleston combined to blank Western Carolina in 2004, and it was the first complete game no-hitter by a starter since The Citadel's T.A. Fulmer shut down East Tennessee State in 2002.
Other hitters receiving consideration were Daniel Kassouf (Appalachian State), Nick Orvin (The Citadel), Michael Zeblo (Davidson), Chase Griffin (Georgia Southern), Zach Leach (UNCG), C.K. Irby (Samford), Tyler White (Western Carolina) and Mac Doyle (Wofford).
Other top performers among pitchers were Ryan Arrowood (Appalachian State), Ryan West (College of Charleston), Austin Pritcher (The Citadel), Spencer Medick (Elon), Justin Hess (Georgia Southern), Jordan Smith (Western Carolina) and Brandon Yarusi (Wofford).
