MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The No. 71-ranked College of Charleston women's tennis team blanked its second opponent in back-to-back days with a 7-0 shutout of East Carolina on Saturday afternoon at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.

The Cougars (22-5) are now winners of their last four regular-season matches leading into the 2012 SoCon Tennis Championships to be held on April 19-22 at the home facilities of CofC and The Citadel.

As the No. 2 seed, they will enjoy a first-round bye and face the winner of the No. 7 and No. 10 seeds in the women's quarterfinals to be played on Friday, April 20 at 1 p.m. (ET) at the Earle Tennis Center.

Sophomore Kelly Kambourelis clinched the fourth and deciding point of the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over East Carolina's Renata Bakieva to extend her team-leading win streak to seventh consecutive matches at No. 2 singles.

In only her fourth collegiate match, freshman Grace Baker defeated Abby Richmond, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 6, to contribute to the final team score.

"East Carolina is a dangerous team and is full of talent," CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "We were able to jump on them early, especially in the second sets. That's probably the best we have played in second sets of singles matches this year. We will take Sunday off, but will get back to the practice courts on Monday. We are definitely moving in the right direction, but we are still working on some kinks in a couple of areas to prepare for a competitive conference tournament."

In doubles play, the Cougars swept all three of their matches against the Pirates (9-15) behind a love pro-set from the combination of senior Katie Lee and Christin Newman at No. 3. Meanwhile, Jenny Falcone and Kelly Kambourelis improved to a team-best 17-6 on the season with an 8-3 win over Dana Gray and Neena Wanko at No. 2 doubles.
