Mocs in 4th After 36 Holes at Knights & Pirates Invite
Marion Duvernay is tied for 7th at +2 after a 70 for her second 18 Monday

MELBOURNE, Fla. --- The Chattanooga Mocs are fourth after 36 holes Monday at the Knights & Pirates Invite at Suntree Country Club. UTC shot twin rounds of 298 for a total of 596, five shots behind third-place Wisconsin.

Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) led the Mocs. After a 76 in round one, Duvernay carded four birdies on second 18 for a two-under par 70 which ties for the season-low with herself and Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.). She is tied for seventh at plus two, 146.

Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) had her best round of the season on the initial 18 with a level-par 72. Loza is tied for 11th at 148 with a 76 in the afternoon.

Britt and Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) are tied for 25th at 151. Britt turned in scores of 76 and 75, while Kryger shot 74 and 77. Sophie Weilguni (Langenlois, Austria) rounded out the team scoring at 162.

Texas Tech leads at five-over par 581. The Red Raiders opened with a one-under par 287 in the morning. UCF is second at 585 followed by Wisconsin (591) and Chattanooga (596).

TTU's Deborah DeVilla shot 69 and 70 for a five-under par total 139. She leads UCF's Carolin Pinegger in second at 142 and Katie Mitchell in third at 143.

The Mocs are back on the course at 8:30 a.m., for a shotgun start. Playing with Michigan and Purdue, the trio starts on holes 4-6. Live scoring of the round can be found on the GoMocs.com women's golf schedule page.

SAMFORD WOMEN'S GOLF HOLDS THIRD PLACE AFTER OPENING DAY OF SAMFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE

ONEONTA, Ala. --- The Samford University women's golf team carded a two-round score of 610 on Monday as the Bulldogs turned in identical marks of 305 to open the 2012 Samford Intercollegiate being held at the Limestone Springs Golf Course. Samford concluded the day in third place and boasted three players ranked amongst the top-five performers.

Samford, which was the most consistent team of the highly-competitive 10-squad tournament Monday, trails only second-place Middle Tennessee by seven strokes and first-place Florida Southern by nine shots. The final round of 2012 Samford Intercollegiate will begin Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) with a shotgun start.

Following Monday's first two rounds of competition, Florida Southern leads the field with a 36-hole score of 601 (298-303). The Mocs hold a two-stroke advantage over second-place Middle Tennessee, which concluded the opening two rounds of play with a score of 603 (298-305).

Samford holds third place along with ULM as the teams both posted first-day marks of 610. The Warhawks turned in first and second-round scores of 303 and 307, respectively. Troy rounded out the top five Monday by carding a 36-hole mark of 613 (307-306).

The Bulldogs were led on the opening day of the 2012 Samford Intercollegiate by true freshman Bailey Gray who turned in a two-round score of 149 (76-73). She will head into Tuesday's final round of competition tied for fifth place in the individual standings.

Samford junior Anna Heim finished Monday's competition tied for 15th place as she carded a 36-hole mark of 152 (73-79). Following Heim, the Bulldogs' Emily Stallings and Sarah Butts both finished with identical scores of 155. Sophomore Alex Jasper closed out the day with a two-round tally of 157 (79-78).

Performing as individuals on the opening day of the 2012 Samford Intercollegiate were the Bulldogs' Natalie Mitchell and Kayla Turner. Mitchell turned in the best performance of the tournament Monday as is currently leading the two-day competition with a 1-under-par 143 (71-72). Turner, Samford's junior native of Clarksville, Tenn., fired a two-round score of 146 (73-73) and is currently tied for second place.

The 2012 Samford Intercollegiate is scheduled to resume Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) as the final round of competition will be held at the Limestone Springs Golf Course.

 

Paladins In 14th At Knights & Pirates Invite

Melbourne, Fla. - Furman recorded rounds of 301 and 318 to hold 14th place at 43-over par after two rounds on Monday in the Knight & Pirates Invitational at the par-72 Suntree Country Club's Classic Course in Melbourne, Fla.

Junior Alexa Rancourt (+8), who paced the Paladins on Monday with a share of 33rd place, posted an opening round 73 before shooting a seven-over 79 during the afternoon. Laura Wearn (+9) used rounds of 74 and 79 to move into 40th place at nine-over par.

No. 29 Texas Tech (+5) holds a four-stroke lead over co-host UCF (+9) after two rounds while Wisconsin (+15), Chattanooga (+20) and Michigan (+21) rounded out the top five in the 15-team field after 36 holes.

Deborah DeVilla (-5) of Texas Tech opened tournament play with rounds of 69 and 70 to hold a three-stroke advantage over the field entering the final round of the 54-hole event.

Final round play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
