SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga's Kaylene Chadwell has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches April 2-8 the conference announced today (April 10). Chadwell went 4-0 in both singles and doubles play last week as the Lady Mocs (14-4, 7-2 SoCon) won conference matches against Davidson (6-1) and Western Carolina (7-0). It is the second time this spring Chadwell has won the weekly award. The Player of the Week selection is made by the conference office.
The Freshman began the week with 6-4, 6-1 victory over Davidson's Katharine Dicconson at No. 3 singles. Chadwell then moved up to No. 2 singles for UTC's match against Western Carolina. Chadwell dropped the opening set 3-6, but rebounded to take the second set, 6-1, before WCU's Megan McLinden retired.
Chadwell teamed with Alexa Flynn at No. 1 doubles for UTC and the Lady Mocs' top pair came away with two victories last week. Chadwell and Flynn downed Davidson's Stephanie Synn and Brites Moniz-Soares, 8-3, to clinch the doubles point for UTC. The Lady Mocs' top doubles team then downed WCU's Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz and Megan McLinden, 8-2.
The Franklin, Tenn., native is now 18-9 in singles play this spring, including a 7-2 mark in league matches. She leads UTC with a 21-6 doubles record. The Lady Mocs' 14 victories are the most for UTC since 2000.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Appalachian State's Ellie Linsell, Elon's Frida Jansaker, Georgia Southern's Paola Garrido, UNCG's Niltooli Wilkins, Samford's Stephanie N'tcha and Western Carolina's Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz.
