SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Georgia Southern’s Paoloa Garrido has been named the Southern Conference’s Student-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.
The sophomore tennis standout won three matches on Friday. She defeated Florida A&M’s Kathline Durden by a 6-1, 6-1 score and Western Carolina’s Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz with a 6-1, 6-0 score. Both wins came at the No.1 singles position. Her win against Diaz secured the match in the conference opener for the Eagles.
Garrido teamed with Mimi Bollaci and also defeated Florida A&M’s Bethany Holt and Elysia Ortiz in doubles play at the No.2 position, 8-2. She was 2-1 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles play last week.
The native of Vigo, Spain maintains a 3.95 GPA in pre-business.
Other nominees included Chattanooga's Jackson Tresnan and Wofford's Rachel Brittenham.
