SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Chattanooga freshman Kaylene Chadwell has been named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played February 27 through March 4. Chadwell finished the week 4-0 in both singles and doubles competition as the Lady Mocs picked up wins over Jacksonville State (7-0) and UT Martin (6-1). The Player of the Week selection is made by the conference office.
Chadwell earned two straight-sets singles wins at the No. 3 position last week, dropping just five games. The Franklin, Tenn., native raced past Jacksonville State's Rafaela Wenzel, 6-1, 6-1, and turned in another strong performance with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over UT Martin's Anna Winkelmann, 6-0, 6-3. With a pair of wins last week, Chadwell has improved her singles record to 5-3 this spring.
Paired with Alexa Flynn at No. 1 doubles, the duo earned an 8-7 (7-5) victory over JSU's Raphaela Lima and Raisa Guasti to start the week. The Lady Mocs' top doubles pair then claimed an 8-2 win over Alice Laing and Anna Marie Herbold of UT Martin. Flynn and Chadwell are now 4-0 since taking over the top doubles position.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Elon's Frida Jansaker, Georgia Southern's Paula Garrido, UNCG's Niltooli Wilkins, and Wofford's Sarah Evans.
